Recently, I purchased a new chain ring from Praxis Cycles. I wanted a smaller ring for my gravel bike so that when I’m bikepacking in Vermont this summer I can have some easier gearing – 36T up front, and max 52T in back with my SRAM X0 Mullet setup. My Rodeo Labs TrailDonkey came furnished with a Praxis Zayante Carbon crankset, and so I would need a Praxis Direct Mount (DM) chain ring to swap out.

Punched up Praxis’ website, ordered the 36T ring, and a week later it was at my door. Although… something was off. What they shipped me definitely would not fit onto my existing cranks. This wasn’t a direct mount chain ring, it was a BCD 104 which was meant to bolt onto a crank and it was the e-bike specific model.

Huh.

So I gave them a call. A nice gentleman, whom I wish I remembered his name now, took my story and immediately said “wow, that’s on us, we’ll fix it.” He then proceeded to ask me about the weather in New Jersey for a reason I could not immediately fathom, and so I told him about the recent 2 feet of snow but that Saturday was looking to be a balmy 50 degrees. “Ah, so you want to ride this weekend. Ok, we’ll ship this overnight via FedEx for you.”

Ah, now I see. I made this call on Thursday afternoon eastern time – Praxis is in California. No, I protested, I only need the right chain ring to be sent to me. I don’t need it THAT fast. He thanked me for my honesty, told me to keep the old chain ring, and he would get me a new one out FedEx 3-day and also threw in a free t-shirt.

What a fantastic company.
