I don’t see the benefit of this change. In light of RAM prices spiking (thanks, AI) and the risk that other components similarly skyrocket in cost, Apple must be thinking of its margins.
Maybe this change is just a refresh of the sales page. Everything was configurable before, now it’s just more obvious. But maybe there’s a chance this new design will be used to more dynamically shift pricing up and down as RAM prices rise and fall, and by giving you the “option” to choose each component they can obfuscate the rising costs of their machines.
Call me a cynic.
