In a recent GCN video Can I Break The Record For Most US States Cycled In 24 Hours?, Ollie finds out that riding across an open grate bridge in the rain is a terrible idea. Terrible luck for his record attempt in this video.
I share this because the bridge which ended his attempt was right near me. Appears to be the Calhoun Street bridge connecting Morrisville, PA into Trenton. What is curious about the video is the mention of this being the only bridge in the area which allows cycling across. That’s not true, not on this bridge and most (all?) of the other open-grate bridges in the area. Cycling across the open-grate is banned, and cycling on the pedestrian path connected on the side is also banned, as you can see in this Google StreetView image:

Had they wanted to ride across a bridge, they could have instead gone 5 miles north to the 295 Scudder’s Falls Bridge, which does have a rideable bike path with no need to dismount.

Perhaps that detour would have made setting this record harder.
