I’ve been drinking 8-8oz cups1 of water per day for the past 1,000 days. I feel…good about that. The actual Day #1,000 occurred on Monday this week, but I was traveling for work and did not have the time to get this post written.
Here’s my Streaks (iOS app store link) screenshot from the day just before I crossed 1,000:

Woo-hoo 1,000 straight days of water consumption.
Am I forever changed having consumed this much water this consistently? Perhaps. I certainly feel it on days when I don’t drink enough water. Parched lips, a dry mouth. My body chemistry seems to expect me to imbibe the full 8 cups each day now. When I don’t do that I physically feel worse. I think before I started this journey I could get away drinking a fair bit less water and still feel fine.
On days when I ride my bike – even doing an indoor, 30-minute Zwift workout – I manage to take in ~3 cups of water in exercise alone. Oftentimes, much more. This helps make it easy to hit 8 cups each and every day.
On days when I do not exercise, it is easy to forget to have 3-4 cups by the time lunch rolls around. Then I play catch-up all day (it’s a pain trying to cram in multiple cups of water in a single hour!), and usually feel a sense of ‘being parched’ come on later in the day.
Is this a milestone? Sure, it can be. 1,000 is a nice, round number that feels worthy of some minor celebration a la this blog post.
I’ll check back in at the 2,000 day mark.
I started with 6 cups for a few months, but moved up to 8 fairly soon after I began tracking this metric. I do not have good data on when this switch occurred. ↩︎
